Not ready for it’s intended use, Fire Escapes today nationwide.
Most people do not think about exiting the building they’re in in the case of an emergency. Even in their own homes most do not come up with a fire escape plan. Therefor it would probably never cross their minds that the fire escape on the building could be one of the many that have NEVER been maintained since installation. Most fire escapes are at least 50 – 75 years old and not “ready for it’s intended use” which is to save the lives of the occupants.
“Ready for it’s intended use” is part of fire escape code which basically means the structure can bear 100 lbs per square inch load in case of emergency egress from a building.
And never mind the increasing reports of fire escape collapses, accidents and deaths from rotted fire escape components falling from many stories up and striking unsuspecting pedestrians on the street.
